Back in the ugly city, looking up at the mountain (which certainly doesn't seem very tall when you're just looking at it), if you zoom waaaay up, you can see the whole cleared area were we were just above the rooftop to the left of center.

Even in the city, of course, the colors were wonderful. Here's a tree just outside the main enterance to the Kyoto Zoo, a few minutes from home.
